ACME Bowling, Billiards and Events

I have worked with ACME Bowl in Tukwila, WA since their inception in 2006.

Project

ACME contacted me about creating a mobile site. They wanted a streamlined version of their current website, focusing on providing the top tier of information requested by their customers.

Goals

In my initial consultations with ACME Bowl, we established the goals for this project.

  • Provide clear and concise content to the mobile site user
  • Use "Call-to-Action" icon buttons on initial page for quick access to the main areas of interest
  • Follow mobile site standards to alleviate user confusion
  • Maintain similar appearance to the main website

Structure

We analyzed the ACME Bowl website statistics to ascertain the best sections for the site structure and to conform best to user habits.

Sketches

With the basic site structure determined, the team met to begin conceptualization.

Storyboard

Once we narrowed down the ideas and the site flow, I created a simple storyboard for review with the stakeholders.

Paper Prototype

I then moved forward with a simple, low-fidelity paper prototype for basic user testing.

Visual Comps

Using Adobe Photoshop, I designed visual mock-ups of three different distinct areas/functionality of the mobile site.

  • Default page with straightforward "Call-to-Action" buttons
  • Visual view of the slide in menu
  • General interior page concept

Interface Development

Once the mock-ups were approved, I hand-coded with JQueryMobile, CSS3, and HTML5 to build the interface and basic functionality. I met with my development team to review the final build-out of the mobile site. We finalized the specifics for connection to the database and to the custom CMS we developed for ACME Bowl in an earlier project.

Project Completion

After the release of the new mobile site, ACME happily informed me of all the positive feedback they received from users and staff.
